Colorado Traffic Flows Again After Blizzard

Three major roadways are not open in Colorado during a late winter blizzard. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) says interstate 25, 76 and 70 are now open and traffic is flowing again.

The roads shut down Wednesday because of whiteout conditions and drifting snow.

During the snowstorm 50 airmen and soldiers of the National Guard were helping rescue stranded individuals. They are still working to rescue some people and a total of 75 are now safe.

Also, nearly 30,000 Xcel Energy customers are without power and will remain in that situation until Friday. Xcel crews are working hard to restore power and restored power to 435,000 people.

During the storm there was a fatal crash with a police officer. A woman witnessed the event and police are working with her to get more details for the investigation.

The officer in the incident was Corporal Daniel Groves. He was outside of his car helping another driver who slid off the highway when another car lost control and hit the officer. The crash is still under investigation and there are currently no charges.

This winter blizzard is still paralyzing many parts of Wyoming and Colorado. Tens of thousands of businesses and homes have no power and additional miles of highway are closing. Also, some airports are still not open and crews are actively looking for more motorists.

Denver Airport is now open but, 600 flights are cancelled. Many schools and government agencies remained closed Thursday and will reopen Friday.
